The Writing Life by Annie Dillard

This text reminds us of the fact that writing takes time and that every detail should be taken into account. Dillard's relate-ability, use of metaphor, and somewhat personal attack on the reader work in her favor. Sometimes when you write, you become unjustifiably attached to the worst part of your work. You convince yourself that you can't live without this moment in the story. The harsh truth that I refuse to accept is that what I have come to write is utter rubbish. Sometimes you need someone there to tell you that this piece of your writing needs to be looked over. After reading this text, I looked over some of my old work and saw that what I had completed was not at all what I wanted. This text just yells out, "Wake up and smell the coffee!"
