"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings"

This short story by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is, to say the least, an interesting one. It makes one think about the borders that being different set up between us in our society. When the old man with wings appears in a normal backyard, he grows to become a point of fascination for the townsfolk. They gawk at him and sell the townsfolk tickets to come see this strange and winged man. It resembles a time in our own history. A time of freak shows and oddball circuses. In the end, the man flies away. "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" is a good example of magical realism and a fine short story that is worth the read.

How Do I Feel About Fantasy?

I am a fantasist, I love fantasy and seek to escape reality in books so I can live in the reality I have. There's just something so exciting about magic and all its splendor. Some people may not be into it, and that is okay. If you are into it, here are a few popular fantasy authors.

Improve Your Writing Today

There are a few traits that help you and your writing improve, let me list a few. Passion, curiosity, receptivity, immediacy, empathy, and endurance. You also are what you eat and that is true with writing. If you find yourself stuck, write about what you know. Go out and explore the world and find new things to know. Writing is a constant uphill climb.

School Shootings and Gun Violence Exist. What Can We Do?

It goes without saying that school shootings are terrible. Something needs to be done, but what can be done successfully? Guns have been incorporated into the lives of Americans via hunting and they can obtain guns legally. Is it fair to ban guns entirely for the rabid school shooter? There are precautions set up with these things, but they aren't working well enough. Better equipping schools for the chance of a shooting would be a good move but is there something that we can all do? In times like these, we should just support one another and grit our teeth. Love to you all.

One of My Favorite Genres

One of my favorite genres is Romance. I never really understood why I liked this genre. I suppose that it's because everyone enjoys imagining what they don't have. One downside to romance novels would be that they can be too much of the same thing. A girl meets a boy and then the boy sweeps her of her feet. Roll the end credits. Romance novels can be nice, but it's much better in moderation. The romance novel that I am currently reading is Once and for All by Sarah Dessen. So, what is one of your favorite genres?

Where Can One Go With Writing?

What can I do if I enjoy writing? Well, here are a few things (there are a lot more than you may think).

Ghostwriter:

It isn't just a title to make you sound cool, a ghostwriter is a writer who is hired to write something for someone that will eventually be credited in the recipient's name. They're like the writing ninjas. To learn more about the money side of things, click this link: "Average Salary for Ghost Writing". You can also find out more about the requirements of this job on the same site.

Technical Writer:

I have a personal history with this career (aka the constant pestering from my uncle to become one). I may not want to be one, but this career could be your thing. Technical writers are helpful in transferring technical information between peoples. Like instuction manuals or diagrams of how things work, to name a few things. They are particullarly useful in the engineering field and are in dire need. To be one you should probably get a Bachelor's degree. In general, you could recive a yearly total of 70,000 dollars.

Lawyer:

Yes, having a skill in writing is helpful in getting you into the law field. Contrary to belief, you will not be spending all your time in the courtroom. You will be spending a lot of time in the office conducting research and writing legal documents (see where the writing come in?). There are quite a few requirements to be a lawyer, so I will link it here: What is a Lawyer? Q+A. On average, lawyers may earn a salary of around 130,000.

My Reflection:

Of these three careers, I feel that becoming a ghostwriter may be an intersting thing to ponder. I would definitely need to bulk up on my writing and editing skills. However, I'm not sure if I would find any of these careers to be my profession. They may be (or maybe they already are) your career.

Videos on Writing Advice

Below are a few videos that I have watched that may give you some helpful writing advice. To sum up a few key ideas of these videos: set aside time for writing, practice, and don't try to imitate what's already been done. You are your own person and can learn to tell your own story. A question for you. How much time can you set aside to write today?
